Aventura,FL Event & Wedding Venues
Ancient Spanish Monastery, located just North of 163rd St., has an amazing and rich history. Construction of the Monastery of St. Bernard de Clairvaux was begun in the year 1133 AD in Sacramenia, near Segovia in northern Spain. Completed in 1141, the Monastery was dedicated to the Blessed Mother and was originally named ‘The Monastery of Our Lady, Queen of the Angels.’ Upon the canonization of Bernard of Clairvaux in 1174, the Monastery was renamed in his honor. A Cistercian monk and mystic, the founder of the Abbey of Clairvaux, Bernard was one of the most influential church leaders of his time. Cistercian monks occupied the Monastery for nearly 700 years. After a social revolution in the 1830's, the Monastery’s Cloisters were seized, sold, and converted into a granary and stable.
In 1925, William Randolph Hearst purchased the Cloisters and the Monastery's outbuildings. The structures were dismantled stone by stone, bound with protective hay, packed in more than 11,000 wooden crates, numbered for identification and shipped to the United States. Soon after the shipment arrived, Hearst's financial problems forced most of his collection to be sold at auction. The massive crates remained in a warehouse in Brooklyn, New York, for 26 years. One year after Hearst’s' death in 1952, they were purchased by two entrepreneurs for use as a tourist attraction. It took 19 months and the equivalent of nearly $20 million dollars to put the Monastery back together. In 1953 Time magazine called it “the biggest jigsaw puzzle in history.” In 1964, Colonel Robert Pentland, Jr, who was a multimillionaire banker, philanthropist and benefactor of many Episcopal churches, purchased the Cloisters and presented them to the Bishop of Florida. Today the parish Church of St. Bernard de Clairvaux is an active and growing congregation in the Episcopal Diocese of Southeast Florida. Services are held on Sundays and weekdays in both English and Spanish. Today it hosts many beautiful weddings. Whether you dream of a traditional, contemporary, non-denominational, inter-faith or civil ceremony, the wedding staff at the Ancient Spanish Monastery will help you create your own unique memorable wedding service with beauty, warmth and grace.

Located just south of the Lehman Causeway and east of West Country Club Drive, Founders Park honors the visionary catalysts whose forethought led to the incorporation of the City of Aventura in November of 1995. The 12-acre park is divided into two regional sections: north and south (Founders Park Bayside). The northern section of Founders Park features a staffed welcome center; a quarter-mile, four-stationed, exercise trail; a completely renovated, age-appropriate and handicap accessible playground; four sun shelters; tennis courts (two clay and one hard); and a multipurpose, open-space, athletic field to accommodate baseball, softball, football or soccer. Public restrooms and vending machines are also conveniently located on site. The southern section of the park (Bayside) consists of tropically landscaped walkways, a bay walk overlooking the intercostal waterway and a beautiful, open, lawn area.
Greynolds Park, once the site of a rock quarry, is now a 249-acre park consisting of a variety of habitats; most notably a relatively intact hardwood hammock and mangrove forest. The hammock at Greynolds is one of the last well-protected natural areas of northern Miami-Dade County. Tequesta Indians used the Oleta River, which runs along the east side of the park, as a source of transportation. In the years following, the Seminole Indians used the land alongside the river as a trading post and a source of supplies for early Miami-Dade County settlers. The park is named after A.O. Greynolds, the head of Ojus Rock Company, who deeded the land over to Miami-Dade County Parks Department in 1936. Today, Greynolds host many weddings, music festivals, and many social and corporate events.
Veteran’s Park, located near Biscayne Bay, with it’s beautiful walkways and playgrounds for kids, is a dog-friendly gem in Aventura, perfect for hosting a fun picnic or a great corporate event.

Canoeists and kayakers can paddle the river to explore this amazing natural area. Swimming from a 1,200-foot sandy beach and saltwater fishing are also popular activities. Picnic tables and grills are available. One large picnic pavilion and eight medium pavilions can be rented for a fee. The large picnic pavilion, White Ibis, has electricity. Visitors can rent kayaks, canoes, and bicycles from the park concessionaire, BG Oleta River. For overnight visits, the park has rustic, air-conditioned cabins and a youth campground for organized groups. Cabins can be reserved through ReserveAmerica or on a walk-in basis.
