Tropical Park, developed on the site of a former horse track in 1979, attracts approximately 1,500,000 visitors annually. A.D. Barnes Park is a 65-acre park nestled in the heart of one of Miami's busiest areas. The park is dedicated to and named after the first Director of the Parks and Recreation Department, who strongly believed recreation was important to the lives of every citizen in Miami-Dade County. Since its opening in 1977, the park has integrated activities that serve people with disabilities into its programming. Amenities include basketball courts, campground, fishing pier, nature center, year round pools, playgrounds, splash playgrounds for kids, trails, visitor and nature centers, fitness zones and picnic shelters. Continental Park is known for its tennis center houses 8 lighted tennis courts and offer lessons. The courts are wheelchair accessible. Reservations are accepted. It also features a large playground, baseball, basketball and tennis areas, walkways and picnic shelters.
West Miami Recreation Center features an air conditioned recreation building with billiards, air hockey, foosball and a large screen TV and sound system, 2 lit tennis courts, 1 lit racquetball court, open one-wall court with a concrete floor for handball and tennis practice, 2 lit basketball courts, fully equipped weight training room with 8 Stations and free weights, multipurpose lit baseball field and lit T-Ball field, lit batting cage and children’s playground area.
